Former England football captain Tony Adams, International football players, Pompey F.C. stars, TV celebrities such as Fred Dinenage and Gaby Roslin, former F1 racing driver Derek Bell and even HRH Prince Andrew, The Duke of York are amongst the hundreds of thousands of people who have dined at Portsmouth’s Pizza House Restaurant over the last three decades.

Former Portsmouth F.C. chairman Milan Mandaric told the Portsmouth News that the Pizza House was his favourite restaurant, and officially reopened the restaurant in 2003 after it was extended and refurbished. The Pizza House made front page Headlines when Harry Redknapp and the Pompey Chairman came to the Pizza House restaurant to celebrate their reunion.

Restaurant owner Giuseppe Mascia, after spending much of his youth in his native Sardinia, worked in restaurants and hotels across mainland Italy and Switzerland. He spent several years building up his experience and knowledge in the catering industry before arriving in Portsmouth on vacation. He liked Portsmouth so much he decided to stay and open his own restaurant!

Giuseppe first opened the Pizza House in 1977, when pizzas were largely unknown in the UK. Now, the Pizza House is one of the most popular and lively places to eat in the city.

The Pizza House, celebrating its 30th year, is very much a family run business. Giuseppe’s brother, Massimo, has been head chef since the restaurant opened. Giuseppe’s oldest son Christian has worked in the restaurant for over 10 years, and holds a B.A.(hons.) degree from the London Institute and a Masters degree from University of Southampton. He is now following in his father’s footsteps as the general manager. Giuseppe’s youngest son Adam, who holds an NVQ in Hospitality & Catering, is often seen running the fully complemented bar. Several other members of the Mascia family also work at the restaurant.

The restaurant has won numerous awards including the National Pizza/Pasta Restaurant of the Year in 1989.  In 2006 the restaurant was nominated for the UKTV Food Local Hero Award and customers’ comments can be seen on their website:

The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes, not just pizza. The extensive menu currently includes more elaborate dishes, such as lobster, roasted rabbit, and veal.

Thanks to its popularity, advanced bookings are advised especially for Friday and Saturday evenings. Party bookings are welcome. The restaurant is non-smoking.

Book your meal today and sample the atmosphere of the Pizza House Restaurant - Portsmouth’s 1st choice for Italian cuisine.
